Votive Candle Supplies
Before making votive candles, there are a few options to decide upon. Here is some help with the candle supplies to get you started.
VOTIVE CANDLE WAX
The first thing you have to do is find a wax suitable for votive candles. You can buy a ready-made mixture appropriate for votives, or you can simply take paraffin wax, as it's cheap and easy to handle. A good target temperature for votives is 175° F.
2. VOTIVE CANDLE WICK
Recommended wick for votive candles is a pre-tabbed cotton core waxed one, though you can as well take the one with the zinc core, it will be easier. If you would like a bulk wick, you can take a #3 square raw or a #3 square waxed wick.
3. VOTIVE CANDLE MOLD
You will need a special mold for making votive candles and you can buy these in a craft shop. You have to decide on the size you want, it can be 2 inches tall or shorter, and 1-2 inches in diameter.
4. ADDITIVES, SCENTS AND COLORS (optional)
If needed: Additives such as vybar or stearic acid, fragrance oil and dye (mixed well with the wax). Try to measure out the things you plan to add to the wax before you start with the candle making process, so that you don't get distracted from carefully melting and stirring hot wax.
5. VOTIVE CANDLE HOLDER
Votive candles liquify when lit, so you will need a votive candle holder and you can enjoy your hand-made votive candle much longer. This is a chance to make your candle even more beautiful, especially if you have an uncolored one. You can have a colored glass votive candle holder, a clear glass votive candle cup, stained glass holder that glows magnificently with a votive candle burning inside or you can have decorated glass votive candle lamps... Just make sure you take a heat resistant glass votive cup. There are even versatile peels/stickers which can be used on the surface of your glass candle containers. They're also heat resistant and can make inexpensive, ordinary glass look elegant.
Just make up your mind, choose your own combination of candle sizes, scents, colors, and you can start making your personal collection of special votive candles!
