Soy Candles

In the 1990s chemists began developing soybean wax, an environmentally friendly, natural wax. It's one of the newest candle waxes and it's becoming increasingly popular, especially among health conscious consumers.

Soy candle wax is made from a pure, 100% natural soybean base and contains no herbicides or pesticides or animal products. It is welcomed by everyone because it is a renewable resource and biodegradable. In comparison to traditional, that is, paraffin candle wax, soy candles burn cleaner, with little or no carbon build up, that means less soot in your lungs and on your walls and drapes.

Soy candles don't contain toxins or carcinogens; and there's no pollutants in them, so it is less dangerous for people who are sensitive to allergies. They also burn more evenly and for a long time - some data says even 50% longer then paraffin candles.

Candles made of soy wax can be scented in various scents, just like traditional candles, and even better than that - since soy wax is a natural wax, it is highly compatible with natural essences. That's why scented soy candles are commonly fragranced with pure essential oils rather than with synthetic scents.

Soy candles are of a creamy texture and they can also be colored, like all the other waxes.

There are few more practical advantages: unlike most types of waxes, soy wax can be melted in the microwave, and it is easier to clean up if you spill it; all you need is water and some dish washing liquid or soap.

If you want to make soy candles yourself, it is recommended to either make them in the form of container candles or to add a bit more of vybar or some other hardening additive to the wax since it is quite soft. Also, as your new soy candle cools, it will need a decent repour, so plan ahead to leave enough wax and it will turn out right.
