Pillar Candles

Scented and unscented, with or without a dazzling candle holder, pillar candles are among the most popular decorating items of today.

Pillar candles come in many shapes, sizes, colors and scents, but you'll probably recognize a pillar candle when you see it. Although their name suggests that they most often resemble a pillar - "a slender, freestanding, vertical support structure or anything similar to it" - pillar candles also come in the shape of squares, triangles and even stars and hearts, depending on the mold.

If you want to give your room a bit of that old, stylish feel, elegant pillar candles coupled with a nice vintage candle holder may be just what you need. They also do a good job in decorating a bathroom or improving the atmosphere of a romantic dinner. With just a dose of creativity, an appropriate pillar candle can successfully accessorize any space.

Apart from being popular, pillar candles are also among the easiest types of candles to make, and a good choice for practicing if you're an aspiring candle making apprentice.

To make a basic pillar candle, you'll need the usual candle making supplies together with some candle molds, but we'll leave that for our next section, aptly called "making pillar candles".
