Making Twisted Candles

If you're ready for some real candle making, here's a challenge for you. Maybe you think that you could never make something that looks as complicated as twisted candles, but we can help you.

Twisted candle is actually a hand dipped candle whose shape is changed while it is still warm and manageable.

Besides your regular tools and supplies for making candles, you'll need to get a rolling pin, some wax paper and a pair of scissors.

First you need to make a hand dipped candle. Wait for it to cool only for a little while and while it is still warm, put it between two sheets of wax paper and flatten it with a rolling pin until it is about 1/4" thick.

And this is where the magic begins. Since the wax is still warm, you can hold the candle at the middle with one hand and start gently twisting one end of the candle with your other hand. Then you slowly twist it with the hand that is holding the candle at the middle, twisting it in the opposite direction, while the other hand is now still.

Then start doing the same with the other half of the candle. Twist the entire candle until it is tight, paying attention to its shape and texture. Make sure that it will be able to be stabile in a candle holder, but be sure to leave it to cool completely before you use it or give it to someone as a present.

You can also leave the bottom of the candle in its original shape, because if you don't flatten that part out, it will fit into a classic candle holder.

Always check if your candles are stable and away from curtains and stuff before you light them.
